  • Which Broadband2Go 3G/4G device is right for me?

Even though you can enjoy Virgin Mobile's Broadband2Go 3G/4G plans using either the Sierra Wireless Overdrive Pro 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot or Franklin u600 3G/4G USB Stick, they each work slightly differently:

    • The Overdrive Pro Mobile Hotspot is a self-powered device that creates a Wi-Fi hotspot that lets you connect up to 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices to the internet at once - laptops, desktops, gaming devices, you name it
    • The U600 USB stick doesn't ever require charging and plugs directly into your PC or Mac, however, you can only connect a single computer to the internet at a time

  • What types of wireless devices can I connect to my Overdrive Pro 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot?

The Overdrive Pro device can work with most Wi-Fi enabled devices - laptops, desktops, cameras, music players, personal media players, and portable game consoles just to name a few. This device supports up to 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices sharing one connection.

Note: Wi-Fi enabled devices must be 802.11b, 802.11g or 802.11n to connect to the Hotspot device.

  • Where can I connect to the internet with my Overdrive Pro?

The Overdrive Pro offers access to Sprint's Nationwide 3G and 4G (WiMAX) networks (where available) for up to 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices sharing one connection making it ideal for families on the go or small business teams. To see if we have Broadband2Go coverage in your area, check out our coverage maps.

  • How Can I Tell I'm Connected to 3G or 4G on my device?

    When you're connected:

    • The 3G or 4G icon (displayed on the LCD of the device) is solid. This information is also displayed on the left side of the home page. By default, your device will always try to connect to the 4G network first (if you have a 4G plan)
    • The bottom area of the device LCD, the Virtual Device, and the Mini Window show the data transfer icon and data transfer information (amount of data; connection duration).

  • If the Connection is "Always On," Am I Always using my MB's?

No. The connection to the network goes dormant after a period of inactivity, but the connection can be re-established faster than having to reconnect. Usage is incurred only when data is passed across the network.

  • What is the average battery life of the Overdrive Pro 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot?

The battery on your Overdrive Pro 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot has an average of up to 4 hours of active use time when connected to a single device and will be used up faster as additional devices are connected and using it (up to 5 Wi-Fi devices are supported). The standby time is approximately 36 hours.

To get the most out of your battery life, be sure to fully charge your battery using the AC adapter. Your Overdrive Pro will charge when connected to a computer using the included USB cable, however due to the power limitations of most laptops, this may not keep the device fully charged.

You can increase your battery life by using some of these tips:

Switch Wi-Fi power save to On. Wi-Fi power save mode is by default set to Off to increase Wi-Fi connectivity, and changing this may impact the period of time the Wi-Fi signal remains connected. To switch the mode:

    • Go to Advanced settings > Wi-Fi > Network > Wi-Fi Power Save Mode
When using the Overdrive Pro tethered, turn Wi-Fi Off. If Wi-Fi is enabled, power use is increased, even if no one is using Wi-Fi. To do this, go to Advanced settings > Wi-Fi > Network then change Disable Wi-Fi to When connected to USB or Always

Keep in mind that battery life can be affected when you try and connect in poor 3G or 4G coverage areas. If you have 3G but not 4G coverage, set WAN mode to "3G only" (Advanced Settings > WAN > Setup > WAN Mode). To see if we have Broadband2Go coverage in your area, check out our coverage maps.

  • Can my Overdrive Pro 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot be used for memory storage?

Yes, the Overdrive Pro 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot supports a MicroSD slot that can use a memory card up to 32 GB and be shared with all users connected to this device.
