What happens when I share my MiFi connection with multiple users or with multiple devices?
There are a few things you'll want to keep in mind when you share your connection with other people...
- Anyone connected to your MiFi network is contributing to the data usage on YOUR Broadband2Go Plan.
So you might want to keep a close eye on your online usage meter.- If the people you're sharing with are using lots of data at the same time (e.g. streaming video), you may notice a slowdown in your connection.
- If your MiFi device is running on battery power, the battery will drain faster as more devices are connected.
-
What types of wireless devices can I connect to my MiFi 2200?
The MiFi device can work with any Wi-Fi enabled device - laptops, desktops, cameras, music players, personal media players, and portable game consoles just to name a few. You can connect up to 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices to your MiFi at the same time.
Note: Wi-Fi enabled devices must be 802.11b or 802.11g to connect to the MiFi device.
-
How is the Broadband2Go MiFi device different from the Broadband2Go USB Device?
Even though you can access Virgin Mobile's Broadband2Go service using both types of devices, they each work slightly differently:
- The MiFi device creates a wireless Wi-Fi hotspot that lets you connect up to 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices to the internet at once - laptops, desktops, gaming devices, you name it.
- The USB device plugs directly into your computer, so you can only connect a single device (your computer) to the internet at a time. -
What if I changed my password and then I forget it?
Here's how to reset the settings on your MiFi 2200, including the password:
1. Unplug the device (if it's charging) and turn it on.
2. Insert a paperclip into the small hole on the bottom of the device and hold it there for at least 5 seconds.
3. The LED light will turn off and on twice to let you know that the reset was successful. The device will be reset to the default password printed on the label on the bottom of the device.
-
Why does it appear that my Mifi device is connected to the Web, but I can't browse?
There could be a couple of reasons:
First, please login to your My Account page at http://www.virginmobileusa.com and make sure you have a plan selected and Megabytes available. If you haven't already selected a plan, or have used up all remaining megabytes, you will need to purchase another plan before connecting to the web.
If you can't browse beyond the My Account site, you may need to re-program your device. (This scenario often occurs after connecting during a network outage).
- Connect your device to your PC using your PC Wi-Fi Manager
- Launch an Internet browser and enter http://virginmobile.mifi/
- Click the Setup Wizard and enter your Admin Password
- At step one of the Activation Wizard screen, select "Yes, I already have an Account # and MSID". Click Next
- Verify that your Account # and MSID appear. Click Next
- At the Change Password screen, select a new password if desired and click Next
- Click Finish
- A pop-up message will be displayed: "We are now attempting to connect to the internet through your MiFi device. If you see your My Account page: Congratulations, your activation was successful. If you see the "One Last Step" screen: Something went wrong. Double-check your Account # and MSID and try activating again."
- Click OK
- The device will re-connect to your PC's Wi-Fi Manager and display the Virgin Mobile My Account screen.
Please note that if you are out of the service area, or are trying to connect during a service outage, you will not be able to re-connect until service is restored.
