Activate your Blackberry device at www.virginmobileusa.com and fill in their billing information. Once complete, turn on the device and everything will be pushed to your phone. There is no need for you to do any programming on the phone itself.

You can adjust how long the keypad backlighting stays on by going to Menu > Options > Screen / Keyboard.

To lock your phone or change your lock code, go to Menu > Security Options > Advance Security Options.

To Unlock your phone, press any key, select Unlock, then enter your lock code.

From the home screen, go to Media > Ring Tones. Use the trackpad to scroll to a ring tone. Click the trackpad to hear. Press the [ESCAPE] button.

From the home screen go to Contacts, click the trackpad on a contact to view that contact. Click the trackpad again and select Edit to edit that contact. Click the trackpad and select Add Custom Ring Tone. Click the trackpad to open a list of ring tones available.

From the home screen, select your Contact list. Once in your list, highlight the desired contact and select Custom Alerts tone for each individual profile.

You can adjust the volume using the keys on the right side of the device. You can also go to Menu > Options or Menu > Sounds to choose the items that would like to change.

You can adjust the sound volume using the volume keys on the side of the phone.

From the home screen, use the trackpad to highlight the speaker icon for Sounds. Click the trackpad again to select the Vibrate Only Sound Profile.

From the home screen, use the trackpad to highlight the speaker icon for Sounds. Click the trackpad again to select the Silent Sound Profile.

These can be changed through the Blackberry Desktop Manager software.

From the home screen, press the Menu option and use the trackpad to select Media > Pictures. You can select files from All Pictures, Picture Folders, or Sample Pictures to set as wallpaper.

From the home screen press the Menu option and use the trackpad to select Clock. Press Menu option again to set the Alarm.

From the home screen press the Menu option and use the trackpad to select Games.

From the home screen press the Menu option and use the trackpad to select Applications > Calculator.

From the home screen go to SMS and MMS. In a message list, press the [Menu] key. Click Compse SMS Text. In the To field, perform one of the following actions: Type an SMS phone number (include the country code and area code). Type a contact name. Or type part of a contact name. Click a contact. Type a message. Press the [Menu] key. Click Send.

From the home screen go to SMS and MMS. Click the trackpad to open and view messages.

From the home screen go to SMS and MMS. Click trackpad to open and view messages. Press the Menu key for options to delete.

From the home screen go to SMS and MMS. In a message list, press the Menu key. Click Compose SMS Text. In the To field, type an email address. Type a message. Press the Menu key and click Send.

You will have the ability to send and receive picture messages (MMS). Virgin Mobile is targeting Summer 2010 for the launch of Picture Messaging on the Blackberry Curve 8530. You will be advised when Picture Messaging is available. You will not have to do anything on the device to enable this feature- it will be enabled automatically to your smartphone.

In the meantime there are other ways to share photos and videos with your family and friends:

Your phone came with a charger when you bought it. Just plug the charger jack into the phone and plug it into a wall outlet. A battery icon in the upper right of the screen will light up to indicate that charging is in progress.

To use a headset, plug the headset device into the audio output jack on the side of the phone. To adjust the volume of the earpiece, use the volume keys on the side of your phone.

Refer to the user guide of the Bluetooth device you are trying to pair with.

From the home screen of your Blackberry, go to Setup. Click Setup Bluetooth. Click Search. Click a Bluetooth enabled device. If required, type the passkey for the Bluetooth enabled device on your Blackberry device. Put your Bluetooth headset into pairing mode. (Refer to the headset's user guide for more information.)

From the home screen go to Setup. Click Setup Bluetooth. Press Menu key and select the desired Bluetooth profile to disconnect.

From the home screen go to Setup. Click Setup Bluetooth. Press [Menu] key and select desired Bluetooth profile to delete.

If you turned off your Bluetooth headset, you may need to re-connect it to your phone again.

If you have not set your Blackberry smartphone to turn on and turn off at specific times, hold the [END] key.

If you have set your smartphone to turn on and turn off automatically at specific times, on the home screen, click Turn Power Off.

If you want the smartphone to stay turned off until you press the Power key, click Full Power Off.

If you want the smartphone to turn on again at the sepcified time or for alarm or calendar reminders, click Turn Off.

On the home screen, press [SEND] key to view recent call list.

On the home screen, press [SEND] key to view recent call list. Use trackpad to highlight desired recent call to delete.

Press and hold the "1" key on your phone. This will dial you directly into voicemail.

The voicemail system will ask you to select a pass code, record your name and a greeting, and set-up your preferences.

That's it. Now, any incoming calls that you don't answer will automatically be forwarded to your Virgin Mobile voicemail.

Press and hold the "1" key. Your phone will dial your voicemail number for you. Enter your pass code at the prompt, and you're in.

Listen to a message, then follow the prompts to delete it.

Press the Voice Dialing button. In the voice dialing application, wait for the sound. That is your prompt to start speaking, and you may say a contact name or phone number.

Note: If a contact has more than one phone number. You can use a name at a particular location, for example Greg at work or Greg at home.

On the home screen, press [SEND] key to view recent call.Use trackpad to highlight desired contact. Press [MENU] key for option speed dial, Add Speed Dial.
