Tips On International Calling With Virgin Mobile

Make international calls the same way you would from any other phone. Dial 011 + the country code + the city code + the phone number. For countries like Canada, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and other countries marked with a “*” in the table, you don't have to dial 011 before the number.

International calls are charged at the international per-minute rate for the country you're calling plus your standard airtime rate.

Calls to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are included in Virgin Mobile's standard airtime rates — there is no additional international charge.

  • When do I choose my plan?

    You'll choose your plan at the beginning of the activation process. Since there are no contracts, you can switch it up later if you want.

  • Do I only Top-Up when my balance runs low?

    With the 400 Minute Plan, you need to add $20 each month.

  • Can my balance ever expire?

    On the 400 Minute Plan, your account will become inactive if you don't pay your monthly charge every 30 days. If you still don't Top-Up within 60 days after that, your account will expire and you'll lose your phone number and any money left in your balance. But we'll remind you to Top-Up way before any of that ever happens.

    With the Basic Rate, your account will become inactive and you'll lose any money in your balance if you don't Top-Up at least once every 90 days. If you go 150 days without adding money, you'll lose your phone number as well. But we'll remind you to Top-Up way before any of that ever happens.

  • Am I charged tax?

    You're charged sales tax on Top-Ups, purchases of equipment and accessories, and shipping and handling charges where required by law. The amount of tax is based on the billing address of the debit/credit card or PayPal account you used to make the payment.

  • I Topped-Up online and was charged tax. Isn't the internet supposed to be tax free?

    Unfortunately, Top-Ups are one of those products that the government requires us to charge tax on even when you buy it over the internet. Depending on the laws of your state, we may be required to charge E911 fees as well.

  • How do I check my balance?

    You can check your balance directly from your payLo or Virgin Mobile phone for free up to 5 times each day.

    You can also get all your account details anytime for no additional charge by logging in to My Account at www.virginmobileusa.com.

  • How do I pay for ringtones, text messages, etc.?

    We'll deduct the cost of any features you use right from your balance. That goes for ringtones, downloadable games, text and picture messages, and other features.

  • What if I want to cancel the service?

    Since there are no contracts, you're free to go whenever you want. But keep in mind that you will lose any money left in your account if you cancel your service.

  • What is e911?

    This per-line, monthly surcharge is generally imposed to fund state 911 emergency systems and emergency services, such as fire and rescue. Rates may vary by state, county, and city. And not all states have an e911 fund.

  • Can I make international calls?

    Sure. payLo offers great rates to over 200 countries, including Mexico. Check out the details at www.virginmobileusa.com.

    If international calling isn’t enabled on your phone, call Customer Service at 1-888-322-1122 and they’ll turn it on for you. Note: You don’t need to have international calling set up to call Canada.

  • Are there any long-distance fees?

    No way. There are no long-distance fees with payLo.

  • When does your 'day' start?

    For voice service, each ‘day’ starts at 12:00 A.M. in the time zone where your phone is registered. For browsing downloads on your phone, each ‘day’ starts at 12:00 A.M. PST and ends at 11:59 P.M. PST of the next calendar day.

  • Am I charged for inbound and 800 number calls?

    Yes. You are charged airtime for those calls, just like you are for outbound calls.

  • Can I send/receive messages on my phone?

    Sure. You can send and receive domestic text messages for 15¢ each and picture messages for 25¢ each.

  • Can I send/receive international text messages on my phone?

    Sure. You can send and receive international text messages for 15¢ each. But you can't send and receive international picture messages at this time, sorry.

  • What is the 1 Year of Service offer?

    Add $90 to your account within a consecutive 72-hour period, and your account will remain active for a whole year. You'll still need to Top-Up in order to use your phone. But if you forget to Top-Up, your phone number and balance will be safe for a whole year.

  • How does the 1 Year of Service offer work?

    Top-Up $90 or more in any consecutive 72-hour period by using a credit/debit card, PayPal account, or Top-Up cards. Once you qualify, we’ll send you an alert letting you know that you’ve qualified for 1 Year of Service. That’s all there is to it. The money you put towards qualifying for 1 Year of Service is yours to use.

  • Do I still need to Top-Up if I've qualified for 1 Year of Service?

    Yes. If you use up the money that you added to your account to qualify for 1 Year of Service, you’ll need to Top-Up if you want to make calls, send texts, and use downloads. 1 Year of Service keeps your account from expiring, but you’ll still need to Top-Up to pay for your service and keep using your phone.

  • Will the two payLo plans (400 Minute Plan and 20¢/min Basic Rate) work on all payLo phones?

    Yes, the 400 Minute Plan and 20¢/min Basic Rate will work on all payLo phones.

  • How much does it cost to browse the web from my phone?

    You can buy a Data Pass to surf the web from your phone for $1.50/MB per day, charged only on the days you use it.

    Each Data Pass lasts for 1 megabyte or 24 hours, whichever comes first. If you use up your megabyte before the end of 24 hours, you will be charged $1.50 for each additional megabyte. Unused data expires 24 hours after purchase.

  • What happens if I use up all of the megabytes (MBs) in my Data Pass?

    You will be charged for any additional data you use. Additional MBs cost $1 each and expire 24 hours from the time of purchase.

  • Do unused megabytes expire?

    With a Data Pass, any unused data will expire 24 hours from the time of purchase.

  • What types of content count towards my Data Pass?

    Things like surfing the web and streaming music/video count toward your MB usage.

  • How do I buy a Data Pass?

    You can opt in on your phone or here on the web.

  • Can I still use data on my phone if I don't opt-in to buy a Data Pass?
